I passed the time and slowly watched Game of Thrones from the first episode (little by little because I was so busy) because I had only heard great things about it from friends, family, and IMDb reviewers.

And with such a great cast and brilliant book series, what could go wrong? The good news is that nothing went wrong on Game of Thrones. Not only is it one of the rare television series that honors its original and treats it with respect, it’s also one of the best, most compelling, and consistently impressive series of recent years. A television series so brilliant that you have to wonder if it was made for television when everything was made to such a high standard that it puts many movies made today to shame. This is one of the strongest examples of an acclaimed series that deserves all the praise it has received. Visually, “Game of Thrones” looks fantastic.
So is the camerawork and editing, which is also cinematic
The set is spectacular throughout, the sets are very atmospheric and beautiful to look at, with a really detailed eye, and the costumes fit the characters perfectly. Then there are the special effects, which are among the best in all of television and are not overused or abused. The scope, the detail and the way they actually have character and soul is better than many big budget blockbusters. We cannot talk about “Game of Thrones” without mentioning the thematically, orchestral and atmospherically complex music and the unforgettable main theme. Again worthy of a big budget fantasy/action/drama film. It’s hard not to be impressed by the quality of the script.
The characters are also a big part of the appeal
“Outstanding” isn’t a strong enough adjective to describe how good the script is. It is always natural-flowing, multifaceted and thought-provoking, displaying a wide range of emotions such as tense tension, poignant pathos and witty humor. The storylines are so beautifully paced, constructed with lots of nuance and attention to detail, high on emotion, and touch on complex and sensitive subjects with intelligence and sensitivity. Every set piece or more action-packed scene always has a reason, and it’s never just for its own sake. Not only are the set pieces designed with great epic scale, excellent staging, excitement and dramatic tension, but beneath the scale and attention to detail lies a lot of heart and a lot of intricacy. They are not too long, and there are no inappropriate elements.

Game of Thrones features characters that are as well developed and as close to real life as you can get, despite being set in a fantasy world. These characters aren’t hero and villain archetypes (Joffrey is the only one who comes close, the difference is that he’s an extremely interesting character who’s developed a lot, well over a hundred percent on the threat scale), they need a lot more. Decisions are logical and you don’t like a character any less when a decision is wrong because mistakes are acknowledged and learned from.
